The Eagles get Terrell Owens

Posted Mar 16, 2004 in Sport.

Despite scepticism from my friend Vince, my confident prediction has come true, although it didn't quite occur the way I had been expecting.

Terrell Owens, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers, has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in a complex deal involving the 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens had previously made a deal with the 49ers, although this arrangement had gone to arbitration after contract disagreements.

T.O. is one of the finest wide receivers in the National Football League, with 2003 marking his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl appearance. A prolific offensive weapon, Owens is also one of the best run blocking receivers.

Simon is right about my scepticism, although it was justified. The Eagles have never been known to sign a player such as T.O. before. They always take the cautious road with their player acquisitions. Think back on recent trades or free agent signings and tell me anyone even close to the talent level of Owens...anyone coming to mind yet? Nope.

Trust me, when I found out at the beginning of this past season that T.O. was going to be a free agent...I was the first to say the Eagles need to get him. I must give credit to this organization, which I love, for finally addressing their biggest problem...quality receivers. Their offense just got a heck of a lot better today with the signing of Owens. We finally have an awesome receiver!

As usual in matters of sport, Vince is quite correct in his assessment of the Eagles organization. The signing of Terrell Owens has given the Eagles fans a clear indication that they mean to do the right thing.

The addition of Jevon Kearse underlines that commitment to win, and Dhani Jones should be okay filling the hole left by Carlos Emmons.
