Reports are coming in the over 40 Iraqi people have been killed by a US military helicopter, as the left a wedding in Ramadi. The BBC reports:
The incident apparently happened after wedding guests started firing in the air in celebration. The BBC's David Willis in Baghdad says the firing of guns is a tradition at Arab weddings and American troops have in the past mistaken celebratory gunfire for enemy attacks ~ The dead are thought to include several women and children.
The situation in Iraq is deteriorating, rather than improving. The hand-over of power in June cannot come soon enough, and I think that American personnel (and those of other coalition forces) should just leave Iraq to take care of itself.
