South by Southwest decision time

With discounted registration for SXSW ending at the end of the month, I only have a few days to decide whether or not to attend. Who else is going?

My coworkers and I are still discussing it. We are a little reluctant to sign up until the keynotes are posted (though the discounted rate would be nice). I am worried that this year might be all about blogs again. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great topic but I think that they should focus on the technologies surrounding blogs (RSS, database design, effective CSS, etc.) instead of on blogging itself.

I haven't attended the event yet, so I didn't know about last year's emphasis on blogs. My main interest is best practice, both in web design and in web technologies. As a designer/developer who works alone (for the most part), it is important for me to keep up with current techniques and philosophies.

One of the attractions of SXSW is the low registration fee, although when flights and hotels are factored in it is still a big expense for me. Since I work alone, my budget for such things is very small.

You make a valid point about the keynote speakers - I would love to know who will be speaking, and also the composition of some of the panels. Perhaps more importantly, however, is the chance to get together with many of the people I have only conversed with electronically in the past. That is why I am so anxious to know who else might be going. I'm surprised that so few have commented when I mentioned the event.

I am guessing the reason people haven't commented is because of not knowing who's speaking. I am just as anxious as you are to know who will be going as I would like to meet people who's blogs I read on a regular basis.

As for going, even if I (and my coworkers) decide not to go to the interactive festival we will still probably be in Austin (since it's so close) for the festivities and the night life.

I have decided NOT to go. After spending almost $75,000 on fixing up the outside of my house this summer, I cannot afford to bugger off to Austin for fun and games. It's high time there was a web event in Philly!
