First reports are coming in of a massive earthquake, measuring 8.2 on the Richter Scale, near the island of Sumatra.
Fortunately, waves associated with this event turned out to be largely insignificant. Nevertheless, it scared the pants off of a lot of people in the area, and many hundreds of people died as a direct result of the earthquake.
