Excuse the mess

Mind you don't trip! There is a mess all over the floor, and a stack of crap over there in the corner.

During the next week or so, this entire site is undergoing a visual makeover. Changes will be evolutionary, rather than revolutionary - I like the blue theme, the clouds, the si-blog logo, and stuff like that; however, a man grows tired of looking at the same thing all the time. I'm going to take the opportunity to make one or two minor structural changes too, mostly to help support non-blog areas of the site.

One big change will be a shift back to XHTML 1.0 Strict served as text/html. The strict discipline of XHTML 1.1 served as application/xhtml+xml wasn't difficult for me, but I decided to “de-evolve” after learning that Internet Explorer 7 would still not support XHTML for the forseeable future. Serving as text/html affords me a teeny bit more flexibility, and it will be no big bother to change back at a later date if I so desire.

One more thing that might interest a few of the geeks out there. The new design uses Microsoft's "conditional comments" to feed older versions of Internet Explorer with CSS hacks. Nicer browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Opera will get fancier stuff, and in a huge leap of faith, so will Internet Explorer 7 (although I haven't even seen the beta of that yet).

Oh dear, that doesn't bode well for me now does it, darling? xxx

You might very well draw that conclusion, my love, but some things are so beautiful that they can provide an eternity of pleasure for the eye. I've spent 30 years of my life gazing in wonderment at the barely-changing stars in the night sky. Yet for all their arresting beauty, they are outshone by the one I love.
