Remember to vote

Posted Nov 07, 2006 in Politics.

This is a message to all my American friends and family. Please remember to exercise your right to vote today. Consider the record of the current administration as you vote:

  • We live in a polarized nation.
  • Vital stem cell research has been curtailed.
  • There has been no reform of our corrupt government, with lobbyists and special interests determining how the country has been run.
  • The rights of women have been compromised.
  • The Supreme Court, interpreters of the Constitution, no longer reflects the people of America.
  • America is now the most hated nation in the world.
  • Trillions of dollars have been pissed away on a war nobody wanted, and billions have been lost by mismanagement and profligacy.
  • The Religious Right controls the nation, with policy being decided by misguided evangelicals.
  • Our soldiers are dying in a religious conflict that has nothing to do with us, and certainly has little to do with international terrorism.

This nation needs change. This nation needs balance. This nation needs fixing. This nation needs to vote Democrat.

"There has been no reform of our corrupt government, with lobbyists and special interests determining how the country has been run."
Haha, every form of government is corrupt.

"The rights of women have been compromised."
Not sure what you are going at but if you mean abortion - all I have to say is that it shouldn't be used as a form of birth control.

"The Supreme Court, interpreters of the Constitution, no longer reflects the people of America."
    True.

"America is now the most hated nation in the world."
    No doubt there.

"Trillions of dollars have been pissed away on a war nobody wanted, and billions have been lost by mismanagement and profligacy."
A LOT of money has been spent and unfortunately there is no end in sight. I am for Bush believe it or not but we need to prioritize our original reason of going overseas and not liberate countries entire nations.

"The Religious Right controls the nation, with policy being decided by misguided evangelicals."
Well considering America was built by immigrants who wanted to escape religious persecution, its expected really.

"Our soldiers are dying in a religious conflict that has nothing to do with us, and certainly has little to do with international terrorism."
Originally going overseas I feel was needed but we have now been there to long. We need to prioritize our objectives and not liberate countries.

"This nation needs change. This nation needs balance. This nation needs fixing. This nation needs to vote Democrat."
This nation does need change and balance. The nation however does not need any specific party though. Vote whats best for the country, not just for change.

Thanks for your comments, James. I agree that abortion should not be used for birth control, but it shouldn't be outlawed. It shouldn't even be especially difficult to get an abortion, provided it is within a reasonable time frame. A point of view that is against abortion, yet FOR both the death penalty and war makes no sense to me.

After seeing the results this morning, I am pleased that America has sent a clear message to the Republican party that things have to change. Despite the best efforts of the evangelical wack-jobs, it appears that America is trying to heal itself of the polarization I spoke of above.

Abortion by all means shouldn't be illegal but I know a female who has had 9 abortions because she (a)refuses to get on birth control and (b)does not wrap it. The children were healthy and she was healthy. Constant abuse like that just sickens me but in all honesty I feel that it shouldn't be illegal.

i think one has to be very careful using samples of one when discussing issues - it rarely does much to illuminate.

for every "female that has had 9 abortions" through careless or whatever, i'll show you 10 women that have been raped.

not literally of course. but you get my point.

a single drink driver does not warrant either the banning of alcohol or cars.

Well just graduating high school a few years back, I can say with confidence that most young females find abortion the easy way out of parenthood. There are much easier ways to prevent pregnancy rather than "taking a chance" and then dealing with it later. Ill be the first to admit I am a horrible person when it comes to debating, haha.

I 100% agree with what you said, "for every "female that has had 9 abortions" through careless or whatever, i'll show you 10 women that have been raped."
I just said that I don't think it should be used as a form of birth control. Aborting a child because you "arent ready" or "cant handle the stress it will bring" is irresponsible. I understand accidents do happen, but just being responsible helps, you know?

"a single drink driver does not warrant either the banning of alcohol or cars."
I totally agree. I dont think we should ban abortion at all, but I also feel that we shouldn't let it be abused as we do today.
