More kitchen news

Posted Nov 29, 2006 in Events, Family, Miscellaneous, Personal.

I know that some of my readers are keen to learn about how our new kitchen is coming along.

Well okay, about two of you.

It has been a little while since I last blogged about it, so I thought I'd fill you in on what's new. Almost all of the electrical work has been done now, and the contractors are just finishing off the new walls. The flooring and cabinets are going in over the next few days, apparently. Once all the cabinets are fully built, the contractors will order some counter top. I must say that this news forced me to raise an eyebrow, because it was a clear indication that they weren't sure exactly what shape and size everything was going to be. Everyone working on the job speaks a foreign language, so when I ask about some particular detail I just get a thumbs-up and a wide grin. Anyway, I'll let you know how it is going as we get nearer to Christmas.

It's common to not order the counter top until there are cabinets in place. You don't want the wrong size. The counter people will probably make a paper template on top of the cabinets and build it exactly from that.

I think it's time for some photos.

What a good idea to have the worktop made to fit the units. Do take before and after photos Simon, it's always good to compare the wonderful transformation from the original shambles.

I don't know how you do it. You get more comments when blogging about your bloody kitchen than I do on my blog when I reveal the secrets of the universe!

I would've thought it was obvious, Paul. All the secrets and wondrous things in MY universe come from the kitchen.

Living in a rather small apartment with no counter space or cabinets, I have found that actually having counters to prepare food and cabinets to prepare food is not something I liked, but a true necessity I miss. Hopefully yours are not only give you a lot of space but also look damn sexy (sorry, my father, grandfather and great grandfather were all carpenters so I love nice wood work).
