Blind people with guns!

Posted Dec 12, 2006 in Politics, Sport.

What new madness is this? Texas representative Edmund Kuempel has proposed an amendment to an existing law that would allow legally blind people to go hunting with laser sighted rifles. Existing law allows visually-impaired people to hunt with a sighted partner to act as a guide - that's pretty fucking scary enough as it is.

I'm all for empowering the visually-impaired, but giving them a rifle and telling them it's okay to go and shoot at things is about as stupid as letting them drive cars. Somebody needs to vote this half-witted Republican out of office before he gets people killed.

    As I was reading that I was like what in the hell is this? But it came to me that legally blind is people who need glasses to see anything and everything.

    From Wikipedia;
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blindness#Legal_blindness

    "An individual shall be considered to be blind for purposes of this title if he has central visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with the use of a correcting lens. An eye which is accompanied by a limitation in the fields of vision such that the widest diameter of the visual field subtends an angle no greater than 20 degrees shall be considered for purposes of the first sentence of this subsection as having a central visual acuity of 20/200 or less. An individual shall also be considered to be blind for purposes of this title if he is blind as defined under a State plan approved under title X or XVI as in effect for October 1972 and received aid under such plan (on the basis of blindness) for December 1973, so long as he is continuously blind as so defined."

    Is that stating that WITH correcting lenses, if the persons view is 20/200 or less is legally blind?

    If that is what it does say - what in the hell? I'm sorry but if a person cant make our a deer from a stump then I don't want that person holding a weapon.

    I dunno. In a tricky situation, I'd rather be up against a blind person with a gun than a mean motherfucker with 20/20, even if he had got someone helpfully telling him which way to shoot.
