A List Apart returns

After the summer break, A List Apart has returned with a story from Hal Helms about the phenomenon known as scope creep. Basically, this is the term used to describe the process of how clients learn what they really want. It is a chicken and egg situation because the client doesn't begin to see what is possible until they have been shown a working design and the designers don't quite know where to start until they have had some input from the client. Designers will end up spending a great deal of time creating something that then must be reworked or restarted to incorporate new functionality that the client wants after seeing the prototype. The job grows and the scope widens.
