Atlantis "shuttlecam"

Today saw the launch of Atlantis, the fourth orbiter to become operational. For the first time, a $750,000 camera was mounted on the external fuel tank to give downward-facing views during the first two minutes of the launch. During the separation of the vehicle's solid rocket boosters, the view became slightly obscured but not before viewers were treated to the spectacular scene as it lifted off the launch pad. The purpose of the mission was to deliver more components to the International Space Station that is currently being assembled in orbit.
