Dutch-Style Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 pie crust
  • 6 sliced, cored and peeled McIntosh apples
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar for the filling
  • 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar for the topping
  • ½ cup of all-purpose flour for the filling
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour for the topping
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • ⅛ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup of butter, softened
  • ⅔ cup of packed brown sugar

Method

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a nine-inch pie plate with the pie crust. In a large bowl, toss the apples, ½ cup of granulated sugar, ½ cup of all-purpose flour, cinnamon and lemon juice. Pour the filling into the pie plate, mounding the apples toward the center. In a food processor, blend the butter, a cup of flour and the brown sugar until a crumb forms. Sprinkle the crumb over the top of the pie and then sprinkle the tablespoon of granulated sugar over the top. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes.
